The
park of Pilat is a vast territory situated in the border area
of the Massif Central in France, which dominates the
Rhône Valley.
The
summits of the Park of Pilat, known as "Crêts",
reach heights of 1400 meters. The summit of "la Perdrix"
not only reaches 1432 meters but also forms a splendid balcony
with a unique view of the Alps, from Switzerland to Mont
Ventoux in France.
The climate is typically mountainous
but during the summer it profits from the mildness of the Mediterranean
and the Rhône valley. The south part of the park descends
step by step with terraces of tasty apples,
scarlet cherries, and juicy pears, taking advantage of the warm
climate. |

All climates are represented :
from the
cold winters
which freeze the summits. These are covered either with large
conifer forests (where grow plenty of raspberries
and billberries grow) or with brooms and heaths ...
to the sweetness of summers at the foot of this old Massif
made of granite which is bordered by the Rhône. Here,
the area has the fragrance of the South : the old villages have
shaded squares bordered with ancient plane trees, and especially
since there are many wines
producing hillsides: among these good wines some of
them are universally known (Condrieu, white and red St Joseph,
Côtes Rôties...). These vineyards seem to cling
to the rock above the Rhône. It's an authentic, rich and
true area ; one must absolutely discover this region that has
its entrance at the door of Saint Etienne.
