SAINT
JOSEPH AND CONDRIEU WINES
Producteur : Cave coopérative
de Péage de Roussillon
Chavanay
is a small commune of the " Parc du Pilat " which has been
organizing a wines fair every second Sunday of december for
more than 75 years. The producers gather and meet in
order to compare their vineyards and to launch their wine productions
of the preceding year. It is an important day for all the cognoscenti.
The Northern " Côtes du Rhône ", which are listed
among the best vintage wines, are strong and rich : Côte
rôtie, Saint Joseph, Condrieu etc...

The
vinestocks are located in an almost inaccessible place and are cultivated
and vintaged in very hard conditions. The machines can't enter those
grounds which are hung in mid-air. However, the result is finally
exceptional !
The
slopes are divided into small terraces held up by dry stone
walls. In addition, they benefit from an exceptional exposure (South,
South East).
These wines are characteristic of a very particular soil composed
of metamorphic schists and granites. The soils are light, warm,
permeable and not very deep which is very great for the vineyard
production.
The wines from this area were already renowned in the 9th century
since Charlemagne liked the Saint Joseph wine.
